Sleep Science Partners, Inc. was founded in 2005 with the goal of creating a consumer-driven business model to screen, diagnose, treat, and manage sleep apnea via telemedicine. Early success in one element of this business model led the company to focus on selling its PureSleep® mandibular repositioning device (MRD), which has been cleared by the FDA to treat snoring without a prescription, as well as a prescription-only version for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Improving breathing during sleep is a major focus of sleep medicine. The PureSleep device, accompanying use instructions, and ongoing support program have improved the quality of life of hundreds of thousands of people. Prior to introducing the PureSleep device, MRDs required multiple dentist visits and were costly and time-consuming. PureSleep became the first affordable, self-fitted MRD, available directly to consumers. An online questionnaire and an innovative algorithm determined medical appropriateness, pairing patients with a dentist who had pre-written a standing order.

The success of the PureSleep device defined an entirely new retail consumer product category. However the company continues to believe that there is a tremendous unmet need for more convenient, affordable, coordinated care to identify, diagnose, treat and manage sleep apnea, and it continues to explore potential partnerships with healthcare providers to deliver these products and services through the Sleep Sciences brand.
